A long but fun day

Red Cat Quilt
I left home early yesterday to meet friend Barb downstate at the NJ Quilt Convention run by the State Guild of NJ. I took so many pictures of the quilts that I might have to spread it out over a couple of days. Note: Not all the pictures will have the full information. So without further adieu, they are behind the cut.

First Place Bed Quilt Applique
Rings of Posies
Barbara Smith

Best Use of Color
Sunlight Serenade
C. Simonis

1st Place Wearable Art
Attitude
Anna Faustino

Teacher, designer Linda Hahn was on hand showing her quilts and quilt happily talked about various techniques that she used to create them. Here are only a few of them, but first this is Linda.

A special exhibit, Quilting that Saw U.S. Through the War Years: 1941-1945. Here are only a few quilts from the exhibit

Country Gardens Quilt, circa 1941, unknown quiltmaker

Bridal Bouquet, circa 1942, unknown quiltmaker

Music Teacher Quilt, Emily Robison, Kentucky. Pieced in 1943, she finally quilted it in 1978. This must be a record for a UFO!

Here is a close up of one of the blocks

Another exhibit titled Vintage Revisited was curated by Mary Kerr.

A quilt hanging off by itself with no info. I usually do not like red, white, blue combos but this one is so nicely balanced

The Goddess Project exhibit, curated by Elizabeth Rosenberg. Here are my two favourites. The first is called The Goddess of Knitting Cats by Jeri Riggs and the second one is called The Goddess of Erring Canines by Benedicte Caneill.

Back to the main quilt show.

It’s My Thyme to Water
Janet Cohen, Mary Beth Soughetry-Costa, Marti Crowthers, Cindy winter & Jane Kane, with quilting by Alene Bowen. Oh My! The name of their quilt club is Needle & Gun Quilt Club…scary thought there. I kid you not, here is the info sheet. I’ve never equated quilting with guns.

Dragonflies
Constructed by Pat Vereb, quilted by Pat Bochey.

Proverbs 31 Honor
By Mildred Stokes, quilted by Janice Jamison

Kaffe and Me
By Carol Benner, quilted by Karen Thompson

Asian Fantasy
By Janet W. Byard, quilted by Linda J. Hahn

Joyful Village
By Cynthia Cephas, quilted by Olga Butora

circa 1935 – maker unknown, quilted by Martha H. Crothers

Imperial Palace
By Rachel B. Cochran

Lost
By Rachel B. Cochran

I can’t read my picture of the paperwork. Sorry

Here is a close up of the 3D effect of the center of the stars

Painted Sunflower
Best Innovative Quilt
by Raina Lynn-Knapp

Posies, Pearls & Pain
2nd – Wall Quilt Pieced
By JoAnne Lepore

Firey Tempest
by Jeanette Ivie, quilted by Delia Dungan

This is the first 50 quilts - just about 1/3 of the way through the pictures taken. I haven’t got the rest of the downsized yet so will save them for a couple of more posts.

The quiet was shattered last night with a crash and a stuck horn blaring until someone – bless their hearts – got it turned off. Yes, there was another accident outside. It kinda makes me wonder why they spent the last 3 years straightening out the road.

Hmm? Zipper Roses?

The goddess quilts are wonderful, as are all these quilts! Thanks for sharing!

Zipper roses? Good grief! Really. Grief.

OMG, what is that wild newspaper and crossword puzzle quilt? What an amazing piece of modern art! Do you know the artist by any chance?

I don't know for sure. It could be one called Crab fiesta by Jane Lange.

Why the YouTube video of you talking to the dark-haired woman?

WOW. Just wow. So many quilts it boggles the mind, and you're only halfway through the ones you took!

And zipper roses? Some people just have too much time on their hands.

Bridal Bouquet was one of my top three for the show even though it was in the exhibit area.
