Amazon.com’s dirty little deed

As reported in the trade papers today Amazon has officially taken the last step to qualify them as the leader in the greedy bottom feeders category.

Amazon has a print-on-demand subsidiary, BookSurge. Amazon/BookSurge are now telling POD publishers that unless they print through BookSurge the buy now buttons will be disabled/removed from their titles listed on Amazon.com.

For a full report on the situation that has developed – and I ask that everyone read the report - this link will lead you to Angela Hoy’s report on writersweekly.com.

It is about time that the American book trade learned that you can't keep screwing authors indefinitely without eventually discovering that you are screwing yourself as well.

This borders on racketeering!

You know, I get really pissed at Amazon sometimes...makes me sorry I started writing reviews for them. I haven't been in the mood for reviewing books lately because of it, even though there are many books I've read that I would like to review.

And I still order a book or two from them anyway, from time to time...when I can't nail the book down from another source. Makes me feel like a traitor.

Borders is in the red, btw, will most likely get swallowed up (by Amazon, no doubt!).
